Ashley woke up in the middle of the night by a really bad stomachache. She felt Jules’ arms around her waist and she carefully slid up, not wanting to wake a blonde figure beside her. She reached the door and tip toed down to the kitchen. Jules stirred as she felt a missing body beside her, she then went downstairs just to see a heartbreaking moment. She saw Ashley in pain as she swallowed some pills. Jules was in shock, she didn’t know what to do. She wanted to call Quinn but it’s really late, so instead she just went back to bed and tried to erase a painful image of a hurt Ashley.
The next morning Ashley told her that she couldn’t drop her to the studio because she got an important thing to do. Ashley didn’t mention anything else and Jules just nodded, keep staring at her breakfast and ignoring eye contact with Ashley.
Jules decided to take a long walk to the studio after she called Jane and tell her that she will be late.
“How’s the pain Ashley?” the doctor asked her with a concerned look.
“It’s not that bad.”
“Did you take your medicine?”
“Yes, I always take the medicine. Three times a day.”
“Remember, the medicine will only help you with the pain, it’s not gonna make you healthy again. You have to start chemotherapy today.”
“Doctor, I don’t have to stay at hospital right?”
“No, you can go home. But make sure you’ll come on schedule.”
Jules found herself at Quinn’s house, she really needed to talk to someone. After what seems like forever of painful silence, Jules began to speak.
“I saw Ashley take a lot of pills last night. Is she sick, Quinn?” Jules teary eyes stared at Quinn, looking for some answer, some hope to tell her that Ashley is just doing fine, to tell her that Ashley only took her usual vitamin.
Quinn knew that she couldn’t keep this away from Jules anymore, so she just nodded and tried not to break down in front of her.
“Jules, that’s true. Ashley is sick and she got to take a lot of medicine. She doesn’t want to make you worry, and she’ll be fine,” Quinn said without even looking at Jules. She’s afraid she can break down in any minute now.
“You’re lying Q, you’re totally lying!”
“Jules, what are you talking?”
“She takes a lot of pills, she goes to hospital, she’s always sick and tired, she…..”
“Jules, listen to me….”
“Is she gonna die Q? Is Ashley gonna die? Tell me the truth!” Jules can’t take it anymore, she’s crying, she buried her face in her hand, she sobbed uncontrollably. Quinn couldn’t do anything, she just held her and let her cry while she can’t hide her tears anymore.
“How long do we have?” Quinn just froze there hearing Jules’ question.
“We have to believe her, she’s a strong woman.”
“Quinn, you have to keep this secret. You can’t tell Ashley that I know about this.”
An hour later, Jules fell asleep on the couch. Exhausting from crying her eye out.
The next morning Jules woke up at the sound of Ashley throwing up in their bathroom, she tried hard to ignore it
“Ash, I told you not to eat too much bacon,” she said in front of the bathroom door. She heard Ashley laugh, a fake laugh. “Yeah, maybe you right. I just can’t help myself.”
Everyone knows that Jules is not the brightest crayon in the box, but when it comes to Ashley she knows everything. She believes that when the times come, Ashley will tell her everything.
“I’m gonna go for a run, Ash,” Jules said as she hurried to get out from their house. She couldn’t take to saw Ashley in so much pain. Where’s her Ashley? Her strong Ashley. Ashley who always have a smile on her face? She just wanted to cry, she just wanted to run looking for her Ashley.
Today Jules is going to pick Ashley at her boutique, but when she’s arrived, Ashley still has something to work on so she just waits there and looking at Ashley who’s working on a wedding dress. She’s really tired from today’s practice, but she wants to spend every second just to be with Ashley.
“Wake up sleepy head,” Ashley tap Jules’ arm as she fell asleep.
“Just a second okay. I have to finish this and then we can go home.”
Jules suddenly hated herself for falling asleep.
“Nuh uh. I’m not sleepy at all. I don’t wanna fall asleep when I’m with you.”
“What?” Ashley chuckled at her best friend.
“I can’t see your face if I fall asleep,” she said with a smile. A painful, hurt yet loving smile.
Ashley felt her heart stopped for a moment and look at her best friend who still smiling. She tried not to cry in front of her. She needed to be strong for her, but what she heard from Jules is really breaking her heart.
