“No, until you tell me the truth about that sketch or I’ll sell this to Quinn.”
“It’s Jules’ wedding dress!”
“Why are you home early Ash?
“Because I miss you Jules. Look, how about we’re going to the pond tomorrow and feed the duck?”
“How about work?”
“Nah, I can call Olive and let her do the job.”
“You’re meanie Ash.”
“Oh please, she’s my sister and you love me.”
“Okay then, I’ll go buy some bread for tomorrow.”
“Yeay,” Jules ran into her best friend and gave her a bone crushing hug.
“Hurry, I can’t sleep without your cuddle and I’m really tired.”
Ashley felt so hurt to hear the sentence ‘without your cuddle’. Gosh, how she even copes with that if the time has come?
“It’s raining,” Jules said with a pout on her face.
“I’m sorry Jules,” Ashley hated to see her sad.
“How about we go to the beach? Well, there’s no duck there but at least it doesn’t rain at the beach.”
“Hmmm sounds like a plan. Come on!”
Jules then dragged Ashley to her car, “Come on, Ash come on,” she bounced like a little kid.
Ashley was right, good weather at the beach. They ran, made a sand castle, took a picture and Ashley let Jules flew the kite as she watched her with a worried look. How is she gonna cope without me? Is she gonna be alright? I’m gonna make sure they’re gonna take care of Jules and look after her. I can’t leave her alone. I just can’t.
Ashley pulled out from her deep thought as Jules wrapped her arms around her.
“Ash, is everything okay?”
‘Shit she got me’ Ashley told herself.
“Yeah, Baby, everything is fine.”
“You look tired and sad.”
Ashley chuckled, “I’m okay” and she kissed Jules’ forehead. She took a mental note not to think about that thing while she’s with Jules.
“Jules you got sand all over you face. Come here. Close your eyes.”
Jules waited for Ashley to brush the sand from her face, but she didn’t feel anything.
“Ash? You wanna brush the sand from my face or what?” Jules said, eyes still closed. Ashley looks at her best friend that she know since they’re 4.
‘Damn it! I can’t cry. Shit shit shit. She cursed herself’.
“There you go Jules, you’re good to go now.”
“Thanks. I wanna go over there now,” Ashley let out a chuckled hear her best friend thought.
They’re going to Quinn’s house for dinner. She looked at Jules who fell asleep in her car exhausted from running all day at the beach.
When they’ve arrived, everybody’s already there, Quinn, Sam, and Jane.
“Sorry we’re late”
“Yeah we’re going to the beach Q, the weather is so nice,” Jules said as she gives Quinn a big hug.
“Ashley, you’re okay? You look really tired,” Sam asked her
“I’m fine Sam,” she smiled. A fake smile. She was getting better and better to put on her fake smile.
The night was nice, they talked about Quinn and Sam’s wedding, work and how they miss their other friends. It’s getting late and Jules start to feel sleepy,
“Ash, can we sleep over here for tonight? I’m really tired,” Jules whisper to Ashley.
“Quinn, can we sleep over? I’m really tired. I don’t think I can drive.”
“Of course you can. You can sleep in the spare room.”
“Okay. Ash, are you coming?”
“You go ahead Jules, I still wanna chat with them.”
“Okay. Don’t take it too long.”
As Jules went upstairs to the spare room, Ashley, Jane, Sam and Quinn continue to chat.
‘Shit this feeling, oh not now’, Ashley felt her head spinning and her vision blurred.
“Ash, what’s wrong?” She heard Quinn asked her and she managed to answer with a whisper.
“Don’t tell Jules.”
Next thing she knew she woke up in the hospital with a beeping sound and she looked around to find Quinn and Sam talked to the doctor.
“Stomach cancer,” the doctor said to the couple and they saw Ashley woke up.
‘Shit they know’
